Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Responsible for the accumulation and reporting of cash receipts; preparation of bank deposits; direct receipts of cash from patients and other sources with appropriate recording in the system-wide hospital banking system.
High School education or equivalent (GED). Previous cashier experience preferred. Aptitude for figures and accuracy. Must be able to use calculator, computer terminal and printer. Must be qualified to be bonded. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Essential Job Functions
Receives and processes petty cash disbursements for hospital employees according to established procedures. Ensures the accuracy and completeness of petty cash requisitions, including authorization signatures. Records cash amounts received and prepares receipts and related documentation. Identifies appropriate hospital accounts to ensure accurate application of payments received. Prepares and processes receipts. Maintains required records, reports and receipts. Distributes and mails paychecks to employees. Prepares daily cash reports and balances all cash on hand by daily physical count. Investigates and resolves any out of balance problems. Process patient payments through an online bank web portal. Totals checks mailed by patients and provided by foundations and co-workers; completes deposit slips for submission to the bank. Process registrations for laboratory requisitions. Ensures all patient demographic information is accurate and complete. Processes return mail and update computer system with updated information.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.Provides patient care to adolescents, adults, geriatrics.

Provides back-up coverage for other registration areas within the department.
