Under general supervision, assists the pharmacist to interpret physician's orders, select, assemble and place medications in

association with a patient's name for both inpatient and outpatient services. Assures the accurate and timely distribution of

medications, IV solutions, floor stock and controlled substances to patient care areas. Is responsible for accurate charge/credit functions for inpatients and outpatients, interacts with Medical Center Personnel, physicians and others via verbal and personal contact. The pharmacy technician should have working knowledge of drug names, medical abbreviations, aseptic technique, and pharmaceutical calculations as well as demonstrating competent math and computer skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The pharmacy technician II position is responsible for the accurate medication order interpretation, drug product selection and preparation of medications.

Interpreting and filling physician's orders.

Aseptically and accurately prepares IV admixtures under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Fill patient medication envelopes in an accurate and timely manner.

Restock and distribute floor stock items, automated dispensing system medications and controlled substances to all applicable areas.

Ability to repackage bulk medications into unit dose accurately and according to procedures.

Rotate stock and restock unit dose and IV room area.

Maintain current Pharmacy Technician Certification status.

Additional responsibilities listed in the job description for a Pharmacy Technician II when applicable:

Maintaining up to date policies, assisting in training new employees and coordinating all technician work assignments.

Maintain workload statistics, quality assurance activities and reports as needed.

Process employee prescriptions for exposures according to procedure and applicable laws.

Communicates changes to pharmacy and nursing personnel.

Maintains progress on special projects when time permits.

Assists in the destruction of partially used and expired controlled substances.

Accountable for assigned operational processes applicable to the central pharmacy, ICU satellite and operating room substation.

Any other duties as assigned.


High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Required to complete and pass a state approved Certified Pharmacy

Technician (C.Ph.T) licensure exam within 12 months of hire date. Study materials from the pharmacy department will be made

available to the technician in preparation for the exam.

Every 3rd weekend/rotating holidays
