The Manager, Clinical Research is responsible for the overall function of the Clinical Research Services Department. The Manager, assists research investigators in developing, securing, implementing and completing research projects to benefit patients associated with St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and/or Mercy Health Partners. This positions also serves as a resource for the department and/or institution in aspects regarding current regulatory FDA and ICH/GCP regulations and/or policies as well as trends as they pertain to industry-sponsored research.
The Manager directly assists medical director and administrative leaders with identifying long and short-term departmental goals and objectives. Actively participates in the design and operation of the clinical research department. Interviews, hires, evaluated and disciplines assigned staff. They will develop and monitor individual and departmental budgets, as well as, assists in leading, promoting and advocating for Clinical Research. Develops, in conjunction with medical director and administration, the process improvement and QA parameters for the department. Identifies and manages overall department operations and research activities (in collaboration with the medical director and PIs). This person identifies and supports RN and staff professional development pathways. Creates and sustains a collaborative, healthy working environment marked by collaboration and minimization of silos, reviews all project applications and budgets in a manner that follows sound scientific principles, subject safety, and feasibility of study (all of these in collaboration with PI) and leads (or supervises delegate) in submission of new projects and moving through the approval processes and facilitates communication between researchers and related staffs/departments. Monitors resources, billing, expenses to ensure charges for research items and standard care are appropriately allocated. The manager keeps abreast of new regulatory requirements as it pertains to clinical research and leads departmental adherence to same, embraces Standards of Behavior in order to provide and promote excellent customer service for both internal and external customers and holds self and others accountable for behaviors that promote service excellence. Finally, this position demonstrates behaviors consistent with BSMH Core Values and Mission, adheres to the standards and policies of the Corporate Responsibility Program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulatinos and reporting to designated manager or Hotline any suspected unethical, fraudulent or unlawful acts/practices, as well as, to all standards and policies regarding safety/patient safety and quality initiatives. Is responsible for all other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field preferred.
- Must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the state of Ohio.
- Minimum of three to five years in research.
- Experience with research grants desirable.
- High level of interpersonal skills and problem solving required in order that rapport can be developed and maintained between physicians, staff and departments.
- Demonstrated ability to perform independently; self-directed.
- A high level of analytical ability needed to help organize projects, gather and interpret complex data and to fine solutions to problems.
- Ability to prioritize projects.
