General Summary:

The Emergency Care Center Unit Secretary assists with registering patients to be seen in the Emergency Care Center.  The Unit Secretary, under the direction of the nurse, physician and/or midlevel provider, coordinates all patient information and records during and following completion of patient care in the Emergency Care Center.  The Unit Secretary assists with communication between the Emergency Care Center and all other departments in the hospital as well as physicians and community resources. Understands and reacts to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric patient.  Supports the Mission and Core Values of the Sponsors.  Respects and maintains confidentiality.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Minimum Education: High school graduate or equivalent

Required Clerical Skills: Typing, filing, medical terminology, computer knowledge, fax and copier.

Other Required Skills: Attention to detail. Must be able to effectively deal with people in stressful situations.

Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion. Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.
