I. Job Description

Responsible for providing emergency nursing care in a prompt and efficient manner to all patients transported via Mercy St. Vincent's Life Flight. Responsible for assessing, planning, organizing, documenting, and evaluating patient care in conjunction with the flight physician or critical care transport paramedic. The Critical Care Transport Nurse acts as a professional representative of Mercy St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center and St. Rita's Medical Center to the community, as an educator to professional groups, to emergency medical services and promotes Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and St. Rita's Medical Center as regional referral centers. Assists in the provision of care to patients of all age groups (neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric).

II. Essential Job Functions

·Provides professional nursing care to the urgent/emergent needs of the patient prior to air/ground transfer andin the transport environment; works with the Life Flight physician or medic to assess patient condition, tointerpret patient related data, to establish immediate priorities and plan of care.

·Evaluates the patient care delivered in conjunction with flight physician or medic.

·Cooperates with all ancillary and flight support services.

·Acts as a professional representative of Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and St. Rita's Medical Center to the community.

·Facilitates the needs of the Life Flight and Mobile Life patients and their families during hospitalization at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and St. Rita's Medical Center; communicates with other hospital departments as necessary to facilitate those needs.

·Reports patient condition and status to the referring physician or agency as needed for quality purposes.

·Acts as an educator to professional groups and the EMS in our service area and promotes Mercy St. Vincent

·Medical Center and St. Rita's Medical Center as the regional referral centers.

·Participates in department standing and ad hoc committees.

·Attends internal and external educational meetings, keeps current in knowledge, skills and clinical competencies through professional journals, professional organizations etc.

·Ensures quality of patient care by maintaining strategies to insure clinical competence.

·Maintains appropriate employee records including coordination of licenses and certifications.

·Reviews charts to ensure complete and consistent documentation of the Life Flight/Mobile Life patientrecords. Communicates with supervisor or manager when patient care issues or questions arise.

·Develops and maintains loyal working relationships with Mercy Transportation Management Team, fellow employees and others in conduct of daily business. Promotes unity of Mercy leadership team to employees.

·Communicates with contracted EMS provides to maintain program integrity and optimal delivery of MICU service with responsible region.

·Ensures company and employee compliance with company and hospital policy and CAMTS

·Communicates regularly with employees via email, face to face meetings and posted notices in regards to base specific issues or operations.

·Provides service to all age groups. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span by completing continuing education program. Interprets information need to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific need a) neonate b) pediatric c) adolescentd) adult e) geriatric.
