Cardiovascular Services Registrar

JOB SUMMARY:

Assists in maintaining the efficient operation of the STS Registry by aiding in developing, interpreting, implementing and maintaining appropriate CV surgery data collection. The STS Registrar is responsible for abstracting accurate information from the electronic medical record and assigning ICD9 codes, E-codes, and procedure codes to the STS registry patient population by using the International Classification of Disease system to maintain the highest quality of data integrity on a regular basis. 

Provides statistical and PI/QI data on SRMC CVS patient population for achievement of the highest quality of care. The information is also utilized for tracking, trending, hospital planning, educational purposes, credentialing and profiling of physicians involved in CV surgical care. The information is also used for mandatory State and National Registry reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

40%- Works with cardiovascular surgeons to coordinate patient care and prepare for surgery. Abstracts, organizes, and inputs data according to specified STS/ACC definitions into appropriate CV database.  Consults with surgeons and cardiologists to validate data.  Participates in data management functions provided by national organizations to ensure accuracy of data collection.  Reviews and monitors inpatient care as it relates to STS standards.

25%- Reviews and analyzes STS/DCRI post harvest summary and provides montly reports to CV directors, operations manager, and corporate as needed. Compares SRMC data to national benchmarks.  Coordinates monthly cardiac surgery morbidity and mortality meetings.

15%- Analyzes data for trends and opportunities for improvement in cardiac surgical care.  Routinely communicates with medical and nursing staff to ensure current standards of care are met.

15%- Facilitates performance improvement initiatives as determined by the Cardiac Surgical Team based on performance data from the STS Registry.

5%- Maintains and coordinates database updates and stays informed of current updates to software.  Attends national and state level conferences to keep pace with current standards and trends.

Required Minimum Education:

2 year/Associates Degree

Preferred Education:

4year/Bachelors Degree

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Current Rn License in State of Ohio

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

3-5 years clinical nursing with CV nursing preferred.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Previous IS/data entry analysis preferred with knowledge of Microsoft word and Excel.  Strong written and verbal communication, leadership, and time management skills.  Current knowledge of cardiovascular outcomes and benchmarkking principles.
