Evaluates pediatric patients with autism to determine to presence or absence of a communication disorder, and then evaluate, plan, and direct the necessary treatment program. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to children with autism.
Provides speech and language services to pediatric patients with autism, including assessments, therapy sessions, and progress updates.
Completes medical record documentation in a timely manner
Participates in team, staff, parental and professional meetings and consults with stakeholders as representative of child’s treatment team
Provides educational training to behavioral staff on speech and language techniques specific to pediatric patients with autism
Collaborates with behavioral staff, occupational therapy team, and physician to determine and execute plan of care
Develops home programming and instructs parents on implementing of home programming
Supervises intern students and CFY students
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
Graduate Degree Masters: Speech Therapy
Minimum 1 year post-graduate experience
Experience with pediatric patients
Experience with autism
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
May be exposed to physical altercations and verbal abuse.
May be required to use physical restraints.
May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights.
May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
May have periods of constant interruptions.
