Job Description

Performs transportation of patients to and from inpatient/outpatient areas to any treatment area for the purpose of scheduled procedures and other reasons.

Transports bodies to the morgue with assistance as needed.

Collects and maintains patient transport equipment. Cleans and disinfects patient transport equipment between use and at beginning and end of shifts. Equipment includes but is not limited to wheelchairs, carts, morgue carts, oxygen tanks, oxygen regulators, geriatric chairs, blood pressure cuffs, IV poles, rolling stock, etc.

Inspects and reports damaged, broken or missing equipment to the dispatcher or transport manager.

Straighten linens on patient bed after transferring patients from carts, with assistance.

Verifies correct patient transport information through verification of patient’s chart and wristband, consults with nursing when necessary and appropriate.

Utilizes the correct mode of transportation as communicated by the dispatcher.

Assists nursing staff in transferring patient to and from bed to cart or chair.

Alerts nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or unfavorable symptoms.

In accordance with the transportation of patients, utilizes wheelchairs and other approved rolling stock to carry out the essential duties of the position.

Completes transport quickly and efficiently; immediately notifies dispatcher when assignments are initiated, completed and when requested by the dispatcher. Notifies dispatcher of break and meal timers.

Communicates any delays to the appropriate department(s).

Ensure the safety of patient during transport by utilizing brakes, straps and other proper equipment.

Education:

High School Graduate/GED required.

Heart Saver required. Mercy Health accepts American Heart Association

Functional Capacity Exam Required

 Experience:

Healthcare and/or transport experience preferred.

Hours: Variable

This position rotates every other weekend and holiday
