40 hour Full Time Days

Mon- Fri 8am-4:30pm + a 30 minute lunch

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position  

The Community Paramedic is an extremely demanding role. The individual must be capable of assuming a variety of tasks and be able to make quick and safe decisions pertaining to patient care. The Community Paramedic is responsible for primary care and education in the home environment. This includes assessing, stabilizing, and arranging transport of the acutely ill patient to a hospital.  Patient care rendered should be based upon sound clinical judgment, standing orders, and interaction with Physicians and the Community Paramedic Medical Control Physician.  

Essential Job Functions  

  • Examines, screens, treats, and coordinates health services for patients. 

  • Conducts post-hospital release follow-up care including, but not limited to, monitoring medication, dressing changes, and checking vital signs. 

  • Observes, records, and reports to physician, patient’s conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.  

  • Conducts patient education, including diabetes prevention/treatment, hypertension, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), falls assessment, injury evaluation, geriatric frailty visits, and nutrition. 

  • Administers patient care consistent with department protocols and physician orders. 

  • Coordinates appointments and follow-up with physicians and hospitals 

  • Develops and completes appropriate reports and templates for the Community Paramedic Program

Licensing/Certification 

Certified as an EMT-P in State of practice preferred. Nationally registered required.

Current certification in ACLS, BLS, and PALS/PEP required.  

Valid Driver’s License required.

PHTLS/ITLS preferred.

Education 

High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of a Community Paramedic class to include clinical.  

  

Work Experience 

One year’s experience as a Critical Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (CCEMTP) preferred.   

Three years’ experience as EMT-P for an EMS service required.   

Must be at least 23 years old and meet insurance guidelines.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. 

Working Conditions  

Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. 

May be exposed to high noise levels and bright lights. 

May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.* 

May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.* 

May be exposed to adverse weather conditions; cold, hot, dust, wind, etc.

This demanding position requires the individual to be in good overall physical condition. Vision and hearing must be within normal ranges or corrected to be so. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and medical preparations is possible.
