Job Description

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Medical Staff Manager, the Credentialing Coordinator is responsible for processing applications. Duties include, but are not limited to compiling credentialing information, contacting physicians and office staff, and maintaining medical staff files in the Medical Staff Office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A.   Education:          High School graduate or equivalent, Associates degree preferred.

B.   Experience:         Minimum four years experience in Medical Staff Services or Credentialing.  Must

                                    possess excellent word processing, database management effective communication

                                    skills, strong organizational skills and must be able to handle multiple priorities and

                                    organize projects and workload to meet constant deadlines. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Has an in-depth knowledge of the credentialing process, analyzes and interprets complicated information.  Determines a course of action based on general guidelines.  Able to utilize various information systems for tracking information and communication.

PROBLEM SOLVING/DECISION MAKING:

Makes decisions and recommendations based on complex and sensitive issues often based on limited information.  Evaluates existing plans, programs, policies and processes based on established objectives.  Exercises judgement to identify and analyze problems.

INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION:

Keen observation and considerable tact, some persuasion, and listening skills to achieve results. 

 PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Ensures credentialing applications are completed accurately according to accreditation and regulatory agencies.

Gathers information to complete and update initial and re-credentialing applications for physicians and allied health professionals. Assures that applications are assembled and verified prior to submission to the credentials committee. Assures that all credentialing processes, policies, and documentation conform to accreditation and regulatory agencies.   File documents according to medical staff policies

  Monitors and tracks board certifications, medical licenses, DEA, and malpractice insurance and verify

  within specified timeframes.

3.      Develops appropriate reports for monitoring, tracking and reviewing the above activities.
 

Records, transcribes and distributes minutes for medical staff department and/or committee meetings.

Maintains a working knowledge of the software used by BSMH for physician credentialing.

Maintains department manuals/records as directed.

Maintains physician on-call calendars accurately and timely.

Ensures that information is updated in Cactus database.
